Foundational learning forms the bedrock for a child's future learning. However, a large proportion of children in Grades 1–3 are not achieving age-appropriate levels of foundational literacy and numeracy, leaving them unprepared for the complexities of the curriculum beyond Grade 3. Recognising the importance of early learning, the National Education Policy 2020 states that "Our highest priority must be to achieve universal foundational literacy and numeracy in primary schools by 2026-27". The NCF also positions teachers across Anganwadis, preschools, and early primary grades as the central drivers of children's foundational literacy and numeracy, stressing that teaching young children is a specialised professional role that requires deep knowledge of child development, developmentally appropriate pedagogy, and continuous, observation‑based planning.
This course, a part of SOPAAN, a flagship Foundational Literacy and Numeracy (FLN) program from Sri Sathya Sai Vidya Vahini, addresses this critical Foundational Learning need by helping teachers, aspiring teachers enrolled in the pre‑service teacher education system (including the four‑year Integrated Teacher Education Programme with a Foundational Stage specialisation) and all educators grow into career professionals, who are skilled, motivated, and empowered to champion Foundational Literacy.
This course fully aligns with the relevant Curricular Goals, Competencies, and Learning Outcomes appropriate for the children's age group, as outlined in the National Curriculum Framework (NCF) for the Foundational Stage (2022)
This is a comprehensive course for student teachers and working teachers to understand classroom behaviour and learn how to manage it effectively. Classroom Management competency helps prevent teacher burnout.
Welcome to the course ‘Reimagining the English Classroom’, where modules on the importance of active listening, mastering critical reading skills, integrating human values in learning, incorporating elements of design thinking, engaging with global and local sustainability issues, and exploring digital demands in the classroom will enable learners to build future-ready English classrooms.
This course is designed for teachers and educational content creators who develop a variety of educational materials such as worksheets, presentations, posters, videos, and other Educational Multimedia resources.
The course builds skills in visual design, ethical use of open resources, and brain-friendly multimedia design based on Cognitive Load Theory and Mayer’s Principles. Using the SAMR framework, participants learn to integrate technology purposefully for more transformative learning. Through hands-on practice and peer learning, educators are empowered to create inclusive, accessible, and impactful classroom experiences.
This course is the second in the SOPAAN Foundational Literacy & Numeracy series from Sri Sathya Sai Vidya Vahini.
Learning to read is a gateway to understanding the world around us. It empowers children to make sense of signs, labels, instructions, poems, posters, and stories. From the cereal box at breakfast to a science diagram in class, printed text is all around us—and reading equips children with the tools to interpret, question, and learn from it.
This course focuses on empowering learners to support young children's reading development through four sequential units: Phonological Awareness, Print Awareness, Phonics, and Reading Fluency. Each unit offers practical strategies, developmental insights, and valuable tools to help every child become a confident, curious reader. Educators will learn to build essential skills in young children, making reading a joyful, purposeful, and accessible experience.
This course aligns with the relevant curricular goals, competencies, and learning outcomes outlined in the National Curriculum Framework (NCF) for the Foundational Stage (2022).
Rapid changes in education and technology are posing yet another challenge to already stressed classrooms, as teachers strive to capture and maintain students' attention during learning activities. In this course, we examine theories of motivation in relation to student engagement and develop strategies to help teachers modify their teaching practices, attract, and sustain students’ interest in learning.
In this course, we will be looking at storytelling as an effective pedagogical strategy to enhance student learning.
We can all recall listening to fairy tales, fables, inspirational stories as children, how it kindled our imagination and curiosity.
It is a powerful teaching method, which inspires, is inquiry-based, enjoyable and student-centric.
Integrating engaging stories and narratives into a lesson creates curiosity and captivates attention to leave a lasting impression. It helps students connect with the concept and provides the relevance of the topics for a joyful and inspiring experience.
This course is the first in the SOPAAN Foundational Literacy and Numeracy series from Sri Sathya Sai Vidya Vahini.
Oral language skills are essential for communication, creativity, and cognitive development, making them crucial for young children in their foundational years.
This course aims to empower learners to support the oral language development of young children through a series of sequential units covering:
Rhymes: Listening to, repeating, and singing along with simple rhymes to extend existing rhymes and create new ones.
Conversations: Listening attentively and speaking in short sentences, expressing feelings, narrating experiences, and engaging in meaningful conversations.
Oral Instructions: Learning to follow instructions, completing tasks of varying complexity, guiding others, and confidently working independently and in groups.
Stories: Listening to and comprehending stories, identifying characters and plotlines, interpreting the author's intent, and narrating short stories with clear structures and characters.
Oral Vocabulary: Expanding oral vocabulary on various topics and parts of speech, enabling children to interact effectively in daily conversations, and deducing the meaning of new words using their existing vocabulary.
This course aligns with the relevant curricular goals, competencies, and learning outcomes outlined in the National Curriculum Framework (NCF) for the Foundational Stage (2022).
